A few weeks ago now I met an amazing human being.
One of those people who is so open and honest and comfortable to be around you feel like you’ve been friends forever.
This man has had his own mental health battles and is on a mission to help others through theirs (switching from his career as an electrician to a social worker!)
He shared with me a poem and I asked if I could share it with you and he said yes!
So, here are some words about giving the different parts of us a chance to be heard and appreciated rather than denied or battled against by Corey once a stranger and now a friend.
I hope you love it as much as I do.
Mental Health

As I sit down quietly to enjoy the sun
My friends tag along to join in on the fun.
“You should be doing so much more with your day!”
Thanks for the advice Anxiety but here we will stay.
“Why did you drag me out of bed for this?”
Oh Depression it’s an experience I didn’t want you to miss.
“What if people think we’re odd or out of place?”
You could be right Self Confidence but that’s something we can face.
My friends usually whisper their opinions in my head
So I always listen to what they think needs to be said
They aren’t always right or helpful but isn’t that kind of relatable
So I give them my thanks any chance that I’m able
And now that everyone has had the chance to be heard
Let us all enjoy this moment without another word
